PRACTICAL PRICING GUIDE
Start with every hour required to deliver the booking: inspection, messages, driving, setup, detailing, pack-down, and customer handoff. Multiply that time by the labor cost or owner-pay target you need the job to support.
Add chemicals, towels and consumables, vehicle cost, payment processing, and a fair allocation for insurance, software, equipment replacement, and other monthly overhead. Increase the scope for vehicle size, heavy condition, pet hair, extraction, odors, correction, or coating work.
Finally, solve for business profit rather than simply marking up materials. Compare the calculated price with relevant local competitors, but only after confirming their service scope is genuinely comparable. Track estimated versus actual hours after each job and use that evidence to improve the next quote.
WORKED QUOTE EXAMPLES
These examples use a $30 labor cost, a 35% target profit margin, and a 3% card fee. Supplies, travel, and overhead change with the job. They demonstrate the method—not what every detailer should charge.
| Example job | Scope | Hours | Est. cost | Quote | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan interior detail | Normal condition, local travel | 3.0 | $133 | $215 | $76 |
| SUV full detail | Normal condition, wash + interior | 5.5 | $237 | $385 | $136 |
| Truck deep detail | Heavy condition, extraction included | 8.0 | $346 | $560 | $197 |
Rounded illustrative estimates. Profit is calculated after the stated fixed costs and card fee.

HOW MUCH DO MOBILE DETAILERS CHARGE?
There is no reliable universal price for a mobile detail. The same package can require different time, travel, supplies, and risk depending on the vehicle and condition.
WHAT CHANGES THE PRICE?
Use the same pricing rules on every lead. The customer-facing explanation can stay simple while your internal calculation covers the complete job.
| Pricing factor | What to estimate | How to present it |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle size | Extra panels, seats, carpet, cargo area, and access time | Separate sedan, SUV, truck, and van starting prices |
| Vehicle condition | Heavy soil, sand, debris, stains, neglected paint, or safety concerns | Condition level or inspection-based adjustment |
| Specialist add-ons | Pet hair, extraction, odor treatment, correction, coating, or engine bay | Approved line item with defined scope |
| Travel | Round-trip mileage, drive time, tolls, parking, and site access | Included radius, travel band, fee, or minimum booking |
| Risk and rework | Weather, uncertain access, expected return visits, or warranty allowance | Written assumptions and change-approval terms |
Once the number works, publish it in a free detailing price list or send it with a professional quote.
COMMON QUESTIONS
There is no single correct price. Calculate the labor time and complete job cost for the service, vehicle, condition, add-ons, and travel, then add a sustainable profit margin. Use local competitors as a market check—not as your cost calculation.
Add labor, supplies, travel, allocated overhead, and other fixed job costs. Then account for percentage card fees and the profit margin you want to retain. The calculator performs this calculation and rounds the result into a practical quote.
Charge more when the larger vehicle increases labor, materials, access difficulty, or risk. Use a documented size adjustment rather than guessing a surcharge.
Yes. You can include a local service radius in the base price and add a transparent fee or minimum booking outside it. Count both round-trip mileage and drive time.
There is no universal target. Choose one that supports your labor structure, overhead, capacity, risk, taxes, and growth plan, then test whether your market accepts the resulting price.
